Connect Slack to Jola
Channels, people and messages, plus post and send messages.
Connect
Owners and admins: in Jola, open Connectors, pick Slack, and follow one of these.
Use your own Slack app
- Open the Slack apps page and choose Create New App, then From scratch. Name it Jola and pick your workspace.
- Under OAuth & Permissions, add these Bot Token Scopes: channels:read, groups:read, channels:history, groups:history, users:read, users:read.email, chat:write, chat:write.public, im:write.
- Choose Install to Workspace and allow it.
- Copy the Bot User OAuth Token (it starts with xoxb-) and paste it here.
- In each channel Jola should read, type /invite @Jola.
- Jola reads only channels the app has been invited to. It can post in any public channel.
- An app your business makes for itself keeps Slack's normal speed limits.
Sign in with Slack
- Sign in to Slack and pick your workspace.
- Allow Jola to read channels, people and messages, and to post.
- In each channel Jola should read, type /invite @Jola.
- Until Jola is listed in the Slack Marketplace, Slack lets it read message history very slowly (one channel page a minute). Posting is not affected. Use your own Slack app to read faster.
What Jola brings in
You pick which of these on the connect screen.
- Channels: Public and private channels the app can see, with members, topic and purpose.
- People: Everyone in the workspace with name, title, email and whether they're an admin, bot or deactivated.
- Messages: Messages and thread replies in the channels the Jola app is in.
What Jola can change
Only when someone asks, or through an automation an owner or admin turned on. Each change is logged.
- Post in a channel: Posts a message as the Jola app. Public channels work without inviting it first.
- Send a direct message: Sends a direct message from the Jola app to one person.
What it can't do
- Edits and deletions of messages already brought in (needs Slack events, next)
- Replies added later to threads started before the last run
- Direct messages between people
- Files' contents
Disconnect it in Jola
Open Connectors, pick Slack, and choose Delete. Jola takes back its sign-in where Slack allows it, and deletes the sign-in, every synced row and document, and the sync history. Seeds using it are shown first, and automations using it pause. Nothing in Slack itself is deleted.
Remove Jola from Slack
In Slack, open the workspace's settings, then Manage apps, and remove Jola.
